There’s something new to be thankful for this Thanksgiving — The CW has released the trailer for its upcoming four-way crossover event: “Heroes vs. Aliens.”
Characters from Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow will all work together to fight against an alien invasion in the four episodes making up the crossover. Considering that the plot seems to involve aliens — ominously called Dominators — invading Earth and causing all sorts of trouble, it may take every character in the CW’s comic-book universe to save the day.
What’s the plot of this series of episodes? Honestly, I’m not entirely sure. But who cares when all sorts of fun characters get to interact — Supergirl‘s Kara and Legends‘ Heatwave are a highlight in the trailer.
The CW crossover event starts Monday, November 28 with that week’s episode of Supergirl and continues on over the next few days.
GilmoreGirls is getting a revival on Netflix, and the streaming network has released a first teaser video showing the return to Stars Hollow with Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel reprising their roles as Lorelei and Rory Gilmore.
Because it’s important for Gilmore Girls to remain silly (and pop-culture topical), the conversation between mother and daughter revolves around whether or not Lorelei could ever be friends with Amy Schumer. Rory thinks the answer would be “no,” an answer mostly revolving around water-sports. Fortunately for Lorelei’s dreams of celebrity friendship, Schumer herself would be cool with a new buddy.
Who else will soon be friends with Lorelei? Fans of Gilmore Girls will find out on November 25, when Netflix releases all four episodes of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
The Flash season 3 trailer makes it clear that the superhero show isn’t playing around when it comes to its Flashpoint-themed premiere.
Thanks to Barry running back in time to save his mother — and later his father — from certain doom at the hands of speedsters, everything in The Flash’s life has changed. Iris and Joe are near-strangers to Barry. Cisco now owns what used to be STAR Labs and is kind of a jerk. Eobard Thawne is alive (and imprisoned?) and angry.
And there is more than one clue in the video — which premiered during the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con — indicating that Barry’s “perfect” world is unraveling around him. It probably doesn’t much help that Wally West is a speedster himself these days.
The Flash season 3 premieres Tuesday, October 4 on The CW.
That’s pretty much the mantra you need to have these days when thinking about television in the midst of sad cancellations, bizarre renewals, and unknown pilots. But at least NBC’s first few peeks into their new schedule look kind of awesome. The network revealed trailers for three of its brand-new shows — Timeless, The Good Place, and This Is Us — on Sunday, and they look… actually pretty good.
I mean, I’m not sure what This Is Us is actually about (other than people sharing birthdays or something?), but it looks like it could be good. Timeless has a great trailer and could be super-intriguing (assuming it’s not all about the Hindenburg disaster). And The Good Place is sure to be hilarious if the two-minute video is anything to go by.
Anyway, check them out for yourself below!
The Good Place
Starring Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D’Arcy Carden, The Good Place seems to be the story of a not-so-good person who gets to go to Heaven in a cosmic mix-up.
One of about 80 time-travel shows hitting network TV in the next year, Timeless has a group of heroes tracking down a bad guy (or is he???) who stole a time machine and is going to do something terrible involving the Hindenburg. The show looks to have a bit of a Fringe-y vibe, so of course I’m going to be watching it. Timeless also stars a lot of actors I love, which never hurts: Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey, and Claudia Doumit.
This Is Us
OK, so this is the one I’m not so sure about (although the casting is spot-on). Based on the trailer, This Is Us is a drama about a bunch of people who have the same birthday and are experiencing big life events. There’s birth, death, love, weight loss, abandonment, and a lot of cake featured. Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, and Ron Cephas Jones star.
CBS will be premiering what just may be my favorite show ever this summer: BrainDead. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Laurel, a brand-new political staffer who realizes that something is very wrong with politicians. It’s not just political problems either — alien (or something) bugs are eating brains.
Check out the first BrainDead trailer above.
Because of course they are. Makes about as much sense as anything in politics these days.
There’s no release date for BrainDead yet, although it’s expected to air during the summer. The show comes from Robert and Michelle King (The Good Wife) and also stars Aaron Tveit, Danny Pino, and Tony Shalhoub.
Game of Thrones season 6 will soon be here, and the first full trailer for the upcoming episodes looks as stunning and shocking as ever. While there is far more in the footage than I can really describe (and not just because that would require remembering the names of roughly 80 characters), the words of Cersei Lannister best sum-up what fans can expect:
“I choose violence.”
There’s a lot of violence coming. Also, there seems to be sexy things and people looking rather despondent. Season 6 may just be the Empire Strikes Back of Game of Thrones, judging by how horrible all of the characters’ lives seem to be at this point.
Except maybe for Jon Snow. He’s in the trailer, but he does not appear to have any life — good or bad — at all now. Only time will tell if that’s the case or not!
Game of Thrones season 6 premieres Sunday, April 24 on HBO.
Orphan Black has never shied away from a twisted storyline, and it appears that the upcoming season will continue tangling the webs its various clones weave. Based on the Orphan Black season 4 trailer released on Wednesday, confusion and chaos reign supreme.
It’s Felix who, as he so often does, sums it up best in the rapid-fire footage seen in the video: “Well now I’m confused.”
Confusing as it is, there is plenty that promises a good season in the brief trailer. Sara is out investigating and kicking ass. Little Kira is being both cute and creepy. Cosima is looking for Delphine. One clone (Sara?) wears a sheep mask. Alison spends quality time with guns and murder. And Helena is crazy. As it should be.
There also seem to be a rather impressive number of shady characters — some of them previously unseen — running through the story as well.
Orphan Black season 4 premieres Thursday, April 14 at 10pm on BBC America.
It takes a lot to out-nerd Cisco Ramon. But a new video clip from Tuesday’s episode of The Flash, “Escape from Earth-2,” makes it clear that alt-Barry is very capable of geeking out at the highest levels.
Apparently, Earth-2’s Barry is a big fan of the comic-book genre and uses that knowledge to make sense of his meta-human doppelganger. He gets really, really enthusiastic describing what happened in the story — so enthusiastic that even Cisco gives him a weird look.
Of course, Cisco immediately insists upon calling Zoom’s hideout a lair, so nerdiness is pretty much coming from all fronts.
Detective Iris West, impressively, barely reacts to any of this and instead focuses on just what has to be done in order to find Earth-1 Barry and Harrison Wells’ daughter. It’s probably good that she is on the team right now.
Daredevil was a rather dark show in its first season on Netflix. But from the looks of the Daredevil season 2 trailer, the grim and violent darkness is only going to increase when the show returns on March 18.
That increase in dark death comes primarily in the form of The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
Otherwise known as Frank Castle, Punisher is a new force in Hell’s Kitchen and is also something of a darker alter-ego for Daredevil (Charlie Cox). As The Punisher himself explains it in the video, “You know you’re one bad day away from being me.”
And all this is before we even see Elektra (Elodie Yung) show up!
The newest Arrow season 4 trailer offers plenty of teases about what happens in upcoming episodes. Footage includes sneak peeks at Anarky, John Constantine, the return of Sara Lance, still-alive Ray Palmer, and a whole lot more. There are also scenes showing Thea’s descent into darkness, some Olicity romance, and Damien Darhk being evil.
