The Arrow fandom has been graced with a new (extended) promo for season 4, featuring full commentary from showrunner Wendy Mericle.
Mericle recently tweeted a link to the special sneak peek, and boy was it jam packed with goodies!
The video starts off with even more Olicity footage, showing an excited Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) feeding Oliver (Stephen Amell) some breakfast. In a most memorable line, upon tasting, Oliver replies with, “Felicity Smoak. You have failed this omelet.”
Though Oliver seems content living in domestic bliss, Oliver and Felicity must eventually be called back home, as Star City desperately needs them.
Thus Mericle highlights the key theme for season 4: light versus dark.
Cue the very presence of darkness, the most dangerous villain Team Arrow has had to face, Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). Pun intended?
Darhk is described by Mericle as a former member of the League of Assassins, who has brought his sinister plan to a more modern setting, posing a huge threat to the city.
While Darhk is at the helm of the baddies this year, a few other brand new characters will be featured this season: namely, Lonnie Machin, or better known as his alias, Anarky (Alexander Calvert). The show will be exploring a new origin story to this famed Batman character, with Oliver and Thea (Willa Holland) playing a significant role in making Machin the villain he will become.
Anarky will be one of the first villains that will not only be an adversary to our heroes, but our “big bad” as well.
With the darkness overwhelming the city, Oliver will have to fight to stay in the light.
If he’s learned anything, it’s that he can’t do it without some help.
Our beloved members of Team Arrow have been working hard all summer in Oliver and Felicity’s absence, and we will be seeing a more advanced skill set from all of them, as well as some strong team growth.
Digg will finally get a new costume, as well as a code name! (Any guesses to what it might be?)
Felicity will be playing an even more crucial role as the new key figure at Palmer Tech, having gained ownership of the company last year after Ray Palmer’s (Brandon Routh) supposed death.
Mericle also promises that this season will focus heavily on Felicity and Diggle (David Ramsey) and the element of family.
Though (not yet) a part of Team Arrow, there is another new character on the side of the light in the form of Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum), who appears to be perfect match for Felicity in terms of genius witty banter.
One thing is absolutely for sure — we are in for one wild ride this season.
Arrow season 4 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 8pm on The CW.
